Rural Retreat
Rural Retreat is a family home in Cavan we are currently working on. The design strategy for the house has been informed from the indigenous Irish clachan. The house is broken into a series of individual blocks representing the traditional cottage and associated outbuildings. The blocks are arranged to create sheltered courtyards around the house which also take advantage of the sun path and the views over the countryside.
The materials palette takes reference from traditional architecture, the large mass clad in locally sourced stone, the smaller mass in white render, with natural slate roof covering. The link tying the two larger elements is clad in zinc and natural cedar.
