We are delighted to have had our Killygarry Old School project shortlisted in the 2019 Isover Awards. The awards seek excellence in energy efficient building practices, in both the design of the build from a specifications point of view, but also with regards to how the building was constructed on site, to ensure maximum energy efficiency for future occupants. Award categories include; new build residential, renovation, new build commercial & commercial revovation.
Killygarry Old School is the renovation and extension of a 1890’s built national school, converting it to a modern family home. A key requirement of the project was to achieve the highest possible levels of thermal comfort. Both the existing building and extension were externally insulated to achieve a thermal bridge free envelope. A specific emphasis was also placed on airtightness. The existing windows were replaced with new triple glazed units to both improve their energy efficiency and enhance their acoustic performance, given the proximity of the building the national road. The existing roof structure, whilst maintained, was also upgraded with significantly increased levels of insulation. The building was also fitted with Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation, ensuring appropriate air quality and an Air to Water heat pump providing for all hot water and heat requirements via underfloor heating.
