We are delighted to welcome the announcement of Monaghan County Council signing a €7 million THRIVE funding award from the Northern & Western Regional Assembly for the transformation and redevelopment of the former St. Louis Convent Chapel in Monaghan Town.
This significant investment represents a major milestone for the St. Louis Lands project and the wider regeneration of Monaghan Town. It will enable the preservation and revitalisation of one of the town’s most important heritage buildings, creating a new cultural destination for residents and visitors alike.
Over the past year, we have worked closely with Monaghan County Council to develop plans for the conservation and adaptive reuse of the chapel. The project will transform this landmark building into a creative, performance and event space, preserving its rich heritage while creating new opportunities for arts, culture and community engagement.
As a key element of the wider St. Louis Lands masterplan, the redevelopment will help reconnect the historic convent lands and lakeside setting with Monaghan Town Centre through the creation of a new public realm, improving access to these unique heritage and natural assets. This landmark investment will deliver lasting cultural, social and economic benefits, strengthening Monaghan’s appeal as a destination for culture and tourism while creating a dynamic new space for community life.
The THRIVE funding award marks a significant step towards realising this ambitious vision and securing the future of one of Monaghan’s most treasured heritage sites for generations to come.
